CABITA Reminds the Gov’t That BIL Teachers Teach FRENCH and “ANGLAIS”

Cameroon’s bilingual education policy is facing a significant contradiction in the recruitment of teachers. Graduates specifically trained in Bilingual Letters (BIL) to teach English to Francophone students and French to Anglophone students are being sidelined, while English Modern Letters (LMA) and “Lettres Modernes Françaises” (LMF) graduates are being assigned to teach across the two educational subsystems.

HTTCs actually establish three distinct specialisations: LMA for English and Literature in English in the Anglophone subsystem, LMF for French and French Literature in the Francophone subsystem, and BIL for teaching the second official language across the linguistic divide (French to Anglophones and “Anglais” to Francophones).
